Il y a bien longtemps que les humains sont arrivés sur les Terres Bannies, qu'ils ont disputées victorieusement aux clans de géants qui les peuplaient. Des terres que l'affrontement entre les dieux antagonistes Asroth et Elyon a bien failli détruire. Aussi, quand cette guerre larvée menace d'éclater à nouveau, bien des destins vont se trouver bouleversés.
À commencer par celui du jeune Corban, qui aspire à manier l'épée et la lance pour protéger son royaume et va devoir mettre son courage à l'épreuve bien plus vite que prévu. Mais la prophétie indique que l'obscurité et la lumière exigeront deux champions, le Soleil Noir et l'Étoile Vive. Il serait sage de rechercher les deux, car si le Soleil Noir prend l'ascendant, les espoirs et les rêves de l'humanité tomberont en poussière. Sauf que personne ne sait qui ils sont, à commencer par eux-mêmes.
Alors que les géants s'agitent de nouveau et que le chaos semble sur le point de s'abattre sur les Terres Bannies, le Haut Roi Aquilus tente de former une alliance avec les autres souverains pour sauver le monde des humains. Mais tous ses alliés n'ont pas la même vision de l'avenir...

Alors que les Terres Bannies ont sombré dans le chaos, la Guerre des Dieux a commencé. Par sa ruse, la reine Rhin a conquis les royaumes de l'Ouest et Nathair a réussi à s'emparer du Chaudron, le plus puissant des artefacts connus sous le nom des Sept Trésors. Il est soutenu par le fourbe Calidus à la tête d'une armée de démons de l'Autremonde, les Kadoshims, dont le but est d'instaurer le règne du dieu Asroth dans le monde de la chair.
Mais ailleurs, la résistance s'organise autour de la reine Edana, réfugiée dans les marécages d'Ardan après un dangereux voyage. Poursuivi par Lykos et ses corsaires Vin Thaluns, Maquin va également assister à la naissance d'une rébellion sur les terres même de Nathair. Corban, marqué par la perte de ceux qui lui sont le plus cher, cherche encore à admettre qu'il est l'Étoile Vive, le champion d'Elyon dans la guerre en cours. Avec sa compagnie disparate, il part vers Drassil, la forteresse de légende censée recéler la lance de Skald, un autre des Sept Trésors. Et selon la prophétie, c'est là que le Soleil Noir affrontera l'Étoile Vive en une bataille décisive.
Mais pourront-ils échapper aux forces nettement supérieures qui menacent de les submerger ? -
Après la chute de Dun Carreg, Corban, sa mère Gwenith, leurs amis et la princesse Edana sont en fuite. Les fuyards se rendent vers l'est, mais il n'y a plus de refuge alors que les troupes de la reine Rhin sont partout...
Nathair, champion du dieu Elyon dans la conflagration à venir, toujours accompagné de Veradis, son guerrier fidèle, se mêle à la guerre de conquête que mène Rhin. Mais ses idéaux le conduiront sur un chemin douloureux...
Maquin cherche à venger le jeune Kastell, qu'il était censé protéger, mais sa quête l'amènera à croiser la route des terribles Vin Thaluns, corsaires esclavagistes et adeptes des combats d'arène. Sa soif de justice suffira-t-elle à le garder en vie ?
Alors que la Guerre des Dieux devient une réalité, tous devront combattre, il faudra juste choisir son camp...

Lik-Rifa, la déesse-dragonne de la légende, a été libérée de sa prison éternelle. Elle prépare maintenant une nouvelle ère de conquêtes et de sang.
Tandis qu'Orka poursuit la traque de son fils disparu, la Confrérie du Sang déferle vers le sud dans une course désespérée pour sauver l'une des leurs, et Varg fait ses premiers pas sur le chemin de la vengeance. Elvar a juré d'accomplir son serment de sang et de sauver un prisonnier des griffes de Lik-Rifa et de ses disciples nés-du-dragon, mais elle doit d'abord persuader les Chiens de Guerre de la suivre.
Pourtant, même la puissance de la Confrérie du Sang et des Chiens de Guerre ne peut rivaliser avec une déesse-dragonne.
Leur seul espoir réside dans les sombres écrits de la déesse enchaînée, un livre de magie interdite qui a le pouvoir de ressusciter le dieu-loup Ulfrir et de déclencher une bataille qui ébranlera les fondations du monde. -
La guerre a embrasé l'ensemble des Terres Bannies !
Le roi Nathair s'est emparé de la forteresse de Drassil. Calidus est en possession de trois des sept Trésors et met tout en oeuvre pour récupérer ceux qui lui manquent avec l'aide de ses alliés Rhin et Lykos. Lorsque les sept Trésors seront siens, il pourra ouvrir un passage vers l'Autremonde. Alors, Asroth et ses hordes démoniaques pourront s'incarner et se répandre sur les Terres Bannies.
Capturé par les géants, son armée dispersée, Corban va devoir trouver de nouveaux alliés pour reprendre le combat et espérer l'emporter. Pourra-t-il profiter des dissensions entre les géants pour les fédérer sous sa bannière ? Il n'a d'autre choix que d'y parvenir s'il veut pouvoir contrer la menace que Nathair et Calidus représentent.
Ses choix détermineront le destin des Terres Bannies. -
Après une guerre dévastatrice ayant mené à leur extinction, les dieux ont laissé derrière eux une plaine dévastée, Vigrid. Que ce soit à l'ombre de la chaîne de montagnes constituée des os d'un ancien dieu ou dans leurs ports abrités au fond des fjords, les humains survivent aux incursions des vaesens, de terrifiants monstres vivant de l'autre côté de l'unique passe séparant leurs terres. Au milieu de conflits de pouvoir entre les différents jarls, une menace semble émerger alors que les enlèvements d'enfants se multiplient.
Orka a raccroché son épée après une vie de mercenaire pour élever son fils, Breca. Mais les événements qui bouleversent Vigrid vont l'amener à ressusciter son passé guerrier. De son côté, Varg, un ancien esclave à la recherche des assassins de sa soeur va croiser le chemin d'une compagnie de mercenaires, la Confrérie du Sang. Au milieu des guerriers, il va découvrir peu à peu ce qu'il n'a jamais connu dans sa vie : la chaleur de l'amitié et de la camaraderie, et peut-être sa propre humanité. Au sein d'un autre groupe de mercenaires, Elvar, qui a rejeté son héritage familial et intégré les Chiens de Guerre, craint de voir son passé ressurgir.
Dans l'ombre des dieux morts un autre conflit, peut-être plus dévastateur encore, pourrait plonger une fois de plus Vígríd dans le chaos. -
